A team of eight royal Dutch Friesian horses carry Her Majesty Queen Beatrix to the opening of Parliament at The Hague in the golden state coach. During World War II the young Queen Beatrix and her siblings were sent to Canada for their safety. Holland subsequently presented Canada with the "Gift of the Tulips" and the tradition of the "Tulip Festival" still continues in the nation's capital every summer.

This web site is meant to inform Friesian, Arabo-Friesian and Friesian Sporthorse owners, breeders and friends of the exciting and long overdue establishment of the first Canadian specific breed registry for our horses.

Seven dedicated Canadian Friesian Horse owners have founded the first Canadian Registry for Friesian Horses, Friesian Cross Horses and Arabo-Friesian Horses, and named it the

"CANADIAN FRIESIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION (CFHA)"

WHY DO WE NEED A CANADIAN REGISTRY?

In the past we had to join foreign registries to register our horses, which often resulted in long wait times for the horses papers and involved paying fees in foreign funds which can fluctuate tremendously.

Inspections and judging tours have not typically been held in Canada forcing breeders and owners to travel extensively throughout the USA and Europe, resulting in extra and unnecessary fees. Translation and communications problems often exist for many of these horse owners.

Canadian owned Friesians are less likely to participate in National Equestrian Awards Program because the national horse shows are not generally located in Canada and are affiliated with the United States Equestrian Federation or the European Union Equestrian Community.

To that end it was seen as a necessary and timely endeavour to establish an official Canadian registry serving our members, horses and breeders.

With that in mind our MISSION is:

To make the registration, inspection and promotion for our horses here in Canada more reasonable, we founded the first Canadian Registry for Friesians, Friesians Sporthorses and Arabo-Friesians.

The registry will strive to assist Canadian breeders, owners, and Friesian enthusiasts to access affordable professional advice and services in order to breed, register, evaluate and award these magnificent animals in accordance with the breeding standards and rules of their mother studbooks and the Canadian Animal Pedigree Act.

Additionally the registry will promote these horses by:

  • Giving our horses the opportunity to participate in Canadian Equestrian Award programs
  • Issuing papers, maintaining DNA and Microchip banks
  • Organizing inspection tours to get the horses evaluated
  • Organizing stallion Keurings and Stallion Approval Tests
  • Organizing membership meetings and opening a member’s communication list on the web

The Canadian Friesian Horse Association is an association in its infancy. There are seven founding members from coast to coast and we invite you to contact us to learn more and get involved in this exciting and ground breaking purely Canadian event.

Membership fees are very low and voices are always heard.

If you are interested joining the CFHA and registering your horses with our own Canadian Registry, please phone or write us and send us your horse story and some of your best horse pictures which we can add to our website.

If you have a talent in the administrative side of things we welcome your help in getting our new registry promoted and all the appropriate legal documentation in place. Please let us know.

Ultimately Friesian enthusiasts are required from each province and territory to promote our horses.

This is an exciting time and the founders are honoured to be a part of it. Our hope is that you will share our excitement and be an active participant in the much-needed Canadian Friesian and Friesian related Horse Registry.
